Bassett Healthcare Network is pleased to announce the addition of a new leader to its nationally-recognized Cardiology team. Evan Adelstein, MD, is a cardiologist who specializes in electrophysiology. Dr. Adelstein’s first day at Bassett was February 9, 2026. He brings 18 years of experience to the department.

Electrophysiology involves the study, diagnosis, and treatment of any issues with the heart’s rhythm and electrical system. This is the system that makes the heart beat and circulate blood. Irregular rhythms can be harmless arrhythmias or dangerous conditions that require medical intervention.

“I first became interested in the field of electrophysiology in medical school through a lecture on Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, which is a congenital heart condition where a patient is born with an extra electrical pathway in the heart. The treatment of it intrigued me. Today, it can be treated with a minimally invasive procedure,” said Dr. Adelstein.

Dr. Adelstein earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. His residency took place at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, and he is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He completed two fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Those fellowships involved specialized training in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology.

“Electrophysiology is a vital sub-specialty in Cardiology that allows us to provide better care to those dealing with a variety of rhythm abnormalities. I am happy to welcome Dr. Adelstein to our department and am confident his expertise will greatly benefit his colleagues and his patients,” said Michael Holmes, MD, Chief of Cardiology for Bassett Healthcare Network.

Dr. Adelstein joins a team of leaders with decades of experience in heart care. To learn more, visit www.bassett.org/heartcare or call (607) 547-3180.
