New Equipment Helps with Patient Rehabilitation at Valley Health Services Thanks to $15,000 Community Foundation Grant

Herkimer, NY — The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties has awarded a $15,000 grant to Bassett Healthcare Network's Valley Health Services. These funds are to advance their care for those recovering from strokes, neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury, and debilitating illnesses and surgeries.

"This level of funding is greatly appreciated," says Lisa M. Betrus, President of Valley Health Services and Senior Vice President, Chief Administrative and Value Officer at Bassett Healthcare Network. "We are thankful the Community Foundation supports our mission to help these patients reach their optimal level of function."

Valley Health Services has used the grant funds to purchase equipment used in therapy sessions that advance a patient's level of independence. The new tools help patients strengthen their sense of balance, use stairs, complete physical transfers, and improve their cognition and reaction time.

“Thanks to this advanced rehabilitative equipment, our short-term patients can return to their homes and previous level of function," says Betrus. "It is adaptable to improve the quality of life for our long-term care residents as well."
