Friends of Bassett Healthcare Network Invites Community Members to Give to Hannah-Lee House This Giving Tuesday

Cooperstown, NY – As the Central New York region enters the 2023 holiday season, Friends of Bassett Healthcare Network is asking members of the community to consider supporting the Hannah-Lee House as they plan their charitable donations on Giving Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Any online donations in support of Hannah-Lee House received on that date will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $2,000. The generous Giving Tuesday matching pledge comes from anonymous donors in memory of former Bassett Medical Center employee, Catherine K. Tuttle, who passed away in 2022.

Going above and beyond expectations is key to providing the compassionate care to patients that Bassett Healthcare Network is known for. The Hannah-Lee House is one example of the constellation of services that reach far beyond hospital walls. Bassett is committed to providing the best care possible to patients and their loved ones.

The Hannah-Lee House was made possible by a generous donation from Mrs. Hannah-Lee Stokes and serves as a home away from home for patients or families with a loved one receiving care at Bassett Medical Center. It offers comfort and privacy, and is located just minutes from Bassett Medical Center, the Bassett Clinic, and the Louis Busch Hager Cancer Center, which houses the Bassett Cancer Institute. Transportation to the hospital is provided.

“Our cancer patients who travel from out of town greatly benefit from the Hannah-Lee House,” says Dr. Timothy Korytko, Chief Radiation Oncologist at Bassett Healthcare Network. “One patient this summer, who came from the Syracuse area, was very impressed. At age 80+ she felt much better coming to Cooperstown and staying at the Hannah-Lee House the night before the procedure. She went to bed at her usual time, woke up at her usual time, and was ready for her procedure the next morning at 7 a.m. without much of a change to her schedule. The Hannah-Lee House made the travel to get care with us much less challenging.”

As one patient wrote: “Thanks to the Hannah-Lee House, my son was able stay at this amazing house and be by my side throughout my cancer journey.”

Another patient’s family member shared, “The accommodations at the Hannah-Lee House were amazing. I was able to get some much-needed rest while staying close to my family member who was at Bassett Medical Center. Thanks to the wonderful nurses for recommending the Hannah-Lee House and for also caring about their patients’ families as well!”
