Opportunities

There are many different types of volunteer opportunities throughout Bassett Healthcare Network. Bassett has five hospitals, one stand-alone emergency department, more than two dozen health centers and specialty clinics, over 20 school-based health centers, two long-term care facilities, an assisted living facility, and more. Our volunteers serve primarily in our hospitals, emergency departments, cancer centers, and long-term care facilities.

We have volunteer positions available in a wide variety of locations within our network:

  • At Information Desks.
  • In Emergency Departments.
  • In the Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Unit at Bassett Medical Center.
  • In long-term care.
  • At cancer treatment centers.
  • In our Patient Experience Department.
  • At entrances to welcome and greet patients and visitors.
  • At many other locations. If you have a place you’d like to volunteer, please just ask!

Programs

Bassett has three volunteer programs:

  • Bassett Healthcare Network Volunteer Program: We make volunteer hours flexible to fit each volunteer's schedule.
  • Bassett's Junior Volunteer Program: The Junior Volunteer Program is part of Bassett's commitment to learning and education. It provides students aged 14 to 17 with appropriate training and insight into healthcare careers of all kinds. The program is flexible, but to ensure our junior volunteers have an excellent experience, this program follows these basic requirements:
    • The program lasts for eight weeks during the summer.
    • Students volunteer for a minimum of two days per week and a minimum of four hours each day.
    • All students attend an orientation and training session on service excellence, infection control, and confidentiality.
  • No One Dies Alone (NODA): NODA ensures patients and long-term care residents have companionship and support at the end of their lives. Volunteers receive training and guidance from Bassett’s Volunteer and Spiritual Care teams. The emotional challenges of this program require a special sort of volunteer.
