Bassett Healthcare Network’s Population Health Office has joined with more than twenty other Oneonta community organizations in the ONEbox program, organized by the Oneonta Narcan Initiative Team.

Like CPR training or emergency AEDs, ONEboxes empower ordinary bystanders to become lifesavers in the event of a drug overdose emergency. Naloxone (a.k.a. Narcan, the most common naloxone brand name) is a medication that can quickly counteract opioids in someone’s body if they are experiencing an overdose.

Each ONEbox includes four doses of the emergency drug along with a screen that plays a short video explaining how to administer the nasal spray medication.

“By recognizing Narcan as just another tool in our first aid kit that anyone can administer, we’re fostering a community environment where seeking help for substance use is just part of good medical care, social care, and being a good neighbor,” said Bonnie Gibb, MPH, Program Manager of Population Health.
