Julie Sorensen, PhD, Director of Bassett's New York Center of Agricultural Medicine and Health (NYCAMH) ended the year on a high note thanks to the New York State Association for Rural Health (NYSARH). On November 21—National Rural Health Day—the not-for-profit advocacy group presented Sorensen with the 2024 Senator Patricia M. McGee Rural Health Worker Award, citing successful projects like the Rollover Protection System (ROPS) Program as well as her leadership of NYCAMH since 2015.

In accepting the award, Sorensen said she felt humbled, noting the long line of past recipients of the award. She credited the award to the hard work of all her colleagues at NYCAMH. "It's one thing to have a few crazy ideas, but it's another to execute them," she explained. "The degree to which we have been successful is because we have a lot of very talented, creative, dedicated people who figure out how to make things work in the most difficult situations. I just want to give a shout out to all my colleagues for all that they do to make this work possible and improve the lives of the folks that we serve." She ended by thanking Bassett Healthcare Network, along with government and industry partners, that support NYCAMH's mission.
