Bassett Healthcare Network’s Chief of Women’s Health, Samuel Badalian, MD, PhD, has been elected Chair of the Membership Committee for the International Urogynecology Association (IUGA).

IUGA is a worldwide coalition of medical professionals, committed to advancing education and research, providing guidance, and increasing awareness related to pelvic floor dysfunction. Through its work, IUGA strives to cultivate international collaborations and partnerships that lead to innovation in the field. Urogynecology is subspecialty that focuses on the pelvic health of women and patients assigned female at birth, including the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction and urinary and fecal incontinence.

“My deepest gratitude goes to the IUGA community worldwide and to the Board for this meaningful and historic honor. As a proud Armenian American, I am continually reminded that dedication, resilience, and perseverance are the forces that turn aspirations into reality,” said Dr. Badalian. “From the smallest beginnings, unwavering commitment can lead to meaningful global impact. I look forward to continuing our collective work to advocate for improved urogynecologic care for patients around the world.”

Dr. Badalian was named Chief of Women’s Health at Bassett Healthcare Network in 2019. Throughout his distinguished career, he has focused on expanding access to urogynecologic services in rural areas in the United States and abroad, earning a prestigious Fulbright Award in 2021 to establish urogynecology fellowship programs in Armenia. Urogynecology was established as a subspecialty in that country, thanks in part to Dr. Badalian’s leadership, in 2024.

Dr. Badalian will begin his leadership position within IUGA on January 1, 2026.
