Donations Will Keep Bassett Babies Warm This Winter

As temperatures drop with the changing seasons, Bassett Medical Center's Birthing Center is grateful for a recent donation of crocheted infant blankets, headbands, and hats. The items were made by the women of Delta Pod at the Delaware County Correctional Facility over the course of eighteen months. Head chaplain, Rev. John Grenier, presented the items to the Birthing Center on their behalf in mid-November.

"When the pandemic swept through our area, the Correctional Facility had to suspend normal visiting hours," explained Grenier. "This was of course very hard news for the women in Delta Pod, so we wanted to find something positive and productive to fill that time."
A volunteer from the community began offering crocheting lessons during the normal visiting hours. She taught the basic techniques, checked their work, and offered suggestions. By the time of the donation, they had a basket overflowing with nearly forty items.
"These items are beautiful and will be cherished by the families who receive them," says Stacey Jordan, BSN, RN and manager of the Birthing Center and inpatient pediatrics.
"We are so thankful for the talent and generosity of the women of Delta Pod. Their kindness has made the world a little warmer."
