Columbia-Bassett medical students Annah Chollet and Frances Morris brought their musical talents to the waiting room at Bassett Cancer Institute in Cooperstown on June 11.

The performance was part of a Music in Medicine initiative the students launched, aimed at harnessing the healing and calming properties of music to benefit patients and practitioners. Patients passing by and waiting for their appointments listened to the music and some joined in the singing.

Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and Bassett Healthcare Network have a distinguished and collaborative medical school program to deepen students’ training and practice experiences through longitudinal observation and research. Accepted students complete 18 months of study at Columbia University’s campus in New York City and then spend the major clinical year at Bassett Medical Center. Learn more by clicking here.
