Jacob VanHouten, MD, PhD, MPH, MS, FACPM, Associate Chief Medical Information Officer for Bassett Healthcare Network, was recently elected as a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM).

Preventive medicine is a recognized medical specialty that focuses on improving a patient’s wellbeing. The goal of preventive medicine is to prevent, when possible, disease, disability, and premature death. Preventive medicine’s applications can include vaccination, medical screenings, promoting routine exercise, encouraging smoking cessation, and population health initiatives to address social determinants that can have a negative impact on a person’s health.
“I am honored to be named a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, an organization I have been proud to be part of since medical school and whose approach to medicine I deeply value,” said Dr. VanHouten. “This recognition reflects my commitment to clinical preventive medicine, patient-centered applications of artificial intelligence in clinical practice, as well as to informatics-enabled population health and the advancement of value-based care. I look forward to continuing to promote preventive health and improve outcomes within our local rural community.”
Founded in 1954, The ACPM is a professional community for board-certified physicians to network, share their expertise, and advocate for the importance and advancement of prevention in society. The ACPM represents over 2,000 physicians, medical students, non-physicians, and other partners.
