About this event
In October Bassett Healthcare Network will be holding volunteer drives at Bassett Medical Center and A.O. Fox Hospital. These events will be great opportunities to get information about volunteer positions across all of Bassett Healthcare Network’s eight-county service area.
Opportunities
There are many different types of volunteer opportunities throughout Bassett Healthcare Network. Bassett has five hospitals, one stand-alone emergency department, more than two dozen health centers and specialty clinics, over 20 school-based health centers, two long-term care facilities, an assisted living facility, and more. Our volunteers serve primarily in our hospitals, emergency departments, cancer centers, and long-term care facilities.
We have volunteer positions available in a wide variety of locations within our network:
- At Information Desks.
- In Emergency Departments.
- In the Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Unit at Bassett Medical Center.
- In long-term care.
- At cancer treatment centers.
- In our Patient Experience Department.
- At entrances to welcome and greet patients and visitors.
- At many other locations. If you have a place you’d like to volunteer, please just ask!
Programs
Adult Volunteers
We welcome members of our communities who are looking for an opportunity to make a difference by volunteering their time in many different ways throughout Bassett Healthcare Network.
Student Volunteers
High school, college, and graduate student volunteers who are 18 and older can gain insight and experience in a health care setting and explore career paths in health care while assisting in a variety of departments.
Junior Volunteers
High school student volunteers who are ages 14-17 and are interested in exploring healthcare careers (or are just looking to give back to the community) can gain hands-on experience while assisting in a variety of departments.
Spiritual Care Volunteers
Spiritual Care Volunteers visit with patients to provide spiritual support and guidance during their hospital stay. This additional support offers companionship, comfort, and encouragement, helping to enhance the overall patient experience.
Pet Therapy Volunteers
Pet therapy dogs and their owners make a meaningful impact everywhere they go: pet therapy can reduce distress, lower blood pressure, and relieve anxiety for our patients, families, visitors, and staff.
