Be Alert: Scammers Seeking Patient Log-In Information
Bassett Healthcare Network has received reports of a phishing scheme in which scammers are allegedly using the MyChart name and/or logo in emails, text messages, phone calls, and websites in an attempt to steal login information and payment details.
The fraudulent emails and messages often have a subject line that references a “Medicare Kit” or a “Senior Health Package” and may reference free gifts that the scammer claims are available. These messages are not legitimate.
At Bassett Healthcare Network, the patient portal is called MyBassett and it is safe to use. Messages from Bassett will state that it is Bassett sending the message on topics like appointments, billing, test results, etc. It will not be sent from “MyChart.” The public should be mindful of any emails, text messages, or phone calls claiming to be from “MyChart.”
Protect yourself from phishing campaigns
- Never click on links or open attachments on emails from unfamiliar senders.
- Check the sender’s email address carefully. Scammers can use slight misspellings or mismatched domains in an attempt to trick recipients.
- Be wary of messages that include a sense of urgency or a fast-approaching deadline. Scammers can use this technique to try to get you to take quick action without thinking.
- When in doubt, verify the message independently. Reach out to the sender via their official phone number, email address, or app. Do not use any of the contact information included in the message that made you suspicious.
