CPAP Therapy
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy works by creating positive pressure within the back of the throat, preventing collapse and apnea. Positive pressure is delivered by the CPAP machine to the airway by a mask or nasal pillows. After a period of acclimating to the mask and pressure, most patients experience more restful sleep.
Bi PAP Therapy
Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (Bi PAP) therapy involves two different pressure settings for patients and is used to treat more than just sleep apnea. Two different pressures are set on the machine, one for inhalation and a lower pressure for exhalation. Dual settings allow more air into and out of the lungs without the normal muscular activity needed to do so. This form of airway pressure therapy is useful for patients with congestive heart failure and different types of lung disorders.
