Local Cooperstown Student Donates to Bassett Cancer Institute with Lemonade Stand Money

Cooperstown, NY - It's not every day that your hometown of 1,800 swells with thousands of visitors. When the world descended upon Cooperstown for September's Baseball Hall of Fame Induction, Avni Patel saw an opportunity for entrepreneurship and compassion.

With the help of her older sister, Arya, and good family friends, John and James, the fifth grader set up a classic lemonade stand in town the day of the Induction. She raised $188 while refreshing passersby, which she then donated to Bassett Cancer Institute. It was a win-win-win: a cool drink for fans, a donation for a worthy cause, and an encouraging story of community service for all.
