Michael Bahlatzis, DPM

Dr. Bahlatzis, board certified in podiatric surgery, has practices in Cooperstown, Bassett Healthcare Network - Herkimer Health Center and Oneonta Specialty Services. He received undergraduate degrees from Albany Medical College-Hudson Valley Community College Physician Assistant Program, and Regents College, and earned his doctorate in podiatric medicine at Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Bahlatzis completed a residency at West Roxbury/Brockton VA Medical Center. He is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association; Fellow, American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. His clinical interests include reconstructive foot surgery, athletic injuries of the foot.

Briana Calore, MD

Dr. Briana Calore is an attending orthopedic surgeon who sees patients in Cooperstown and at Cobleskill Regional Hospital. Dr. Calore received her undergraduate degree from University of New Hampshire, where she was on the collegiate sailing team, and her master's degree and medical degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she played women's ice hockey, ran the Chicago marathon and competed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She completed her internship at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and her residency in orthopedic surgery at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif. She is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Her clinical interests are in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, joint replacement and fracture treatment.

Bruce Daly, DPM

Podiatrist Bruce Daly sees patients at Cobkeskill Regional Hospital, Bassett Healthcare Network -Herkimer Health Center and Oneonta Specialty Services. Dr. Daly received his undergraduate degree at Syracuse University and completed his doctorate in podiatric medicine at Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. His residency was done at Foot Clinic of Youngstown. He is board certified in podiatric orthopedics, and his clinical interests include podiatry, orthotics, sports medicine and foot surgery.

Suzanne DeMulder, RPA-C

Physician assistant Suzanne DeMulder is on staff in Orthopedic Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and sees patients in Cooperstown and Oneonta Specialty Services. DeMulder received her undergraduate degree and her physician assistant certification from Gannon University. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and a Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Michael Diaz, DO

Dr. Diaz has provided orthopedic surgical services for the Oneonta community for more than 10 years, having been a partner at partner at Catskill Orthopedics for five years. He graduated from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. and received his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He received his training at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency with an emphasis on sports medicine. He was chief resident for his program in 1996. Dr. Diaz worked closely with team physicians for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia 76ers.

In Oneonta, Dr. Diaz serves as the team physician for The State University of New York College at Oneonta, and from 1996 to 2004 served as the team physician for the Oneonta Yankees and Oneonta Tigers. Dr. Diaz's interests include the latest arthroscopic shoulder and knee procedures, as well as joint replacements. He see patients at Oneonta Specialty Services in Oneonta, at O'Connor Hospital in Delhi and at Bassett Healthcare Network - Sidney Primary Care.

As an intercollegiate athlete he played goalie for the men's soccer team at Muhlenberg College from 1983-1987. He enjoyed a distinctive career as a goalie in high school while growing up in New Jersey. Dr. Diaz lives in Oneonta and is currently active in youth sports within the community, enjoying family life with his wife and two children.

Joseph P. Dutkowsky, MD

Dr. Dutkowsky is an attending orthopedic pediatric surgeon who sees patients in Cooperstown, Cobleskill Regional Hospital, Bassett Healthcare Network - Herkimer Health Center, Bassett Healthcare Network - Norwich Health Center, O'Connor Hospital and Oneonta Specialty Services. He received his undergraduate degree from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute and earned his medical degree from Brown University. Dr. Dutkowsky completed his internship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and residencies at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and at the University of Tennessee. He completed a Fellowship at Children's Hospital, Harvard University in pediatric orthopedics. Dr. Dutkowsky is board certified in orthopedic surgery. He is a member of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine; the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons; the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America. He has an academic appointment as Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University.

Samuel Hoskins, RPA-C

Chief physician assistant Samuel Hoskins received his undergraduate degree and completed the physician assistant program at the University of Alabama. Hoskins is certified (with special recognition in primary care and surgery) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Samuel Hoskins, RPA-C, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants; Fellow, New York State Society of Physician Assistants; and Fellow, Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery. He is an Adjunct Clinical Professor of the Physician Assistant Program at Daemen College and at Kings College.

Jennie Johannesen, RPA-C

Jennie Johannesen is a physician assistant in orthopedic surgery. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida as well as her certification as a physician assistant. Jennie Johannesen is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Shari Johnson-Ploutz, M.Ed., ATC, RPA-C

Shari Johnson-Poultz has been involved in sports medicine since 1988. She is a certified athletic trainer and a physician assistant in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Bassett. She also serves as the manager of the Sports Medicine Program. Her education began at Cortland State University where she graduated with a degree in Physical Education and Athletic Training in 1990. She immediately pursued her Master of Education at the University of Virginia. While at Virginia she worked with the college's Division I athletes. Ploutz then worked as an athletic trainer at the State University of New York College at Oneonta and as Fitness Coordinator at Otsego Orthopedics. In 1995, she pursued her physician assistant education at the Hudson Valley-Albany Medical College program.

After working as a physician assistant in emergency medicine and family practice for three years, Ploutz transitioned to the Department of Surgery and found her way back to her roots in orthopedics and sports medicine.

At Bassett, Ploutz seeks out patients with sports related injuries and focuses on early injury management and safe return to sport. She also enjoys providing sports specific rehabilitation advice. Her athletic training interests are in on the field injury management as well as functional training for injury prevention and rehabilitation. She continues to work in fitness part time as a Spinning, stability ball and Pilates instructor.

As an athlete, Ploutz has completed eleven marathons and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities year-round.

Jackson K. LaBudde, MD

Director of Sports Medicine and board certified attending orthopedic surgeon Jackson K. LaBudde sees patients in Cooperstown and Bassett Healthcare Network - Herkimer Health Center. Dr. LaBudde received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, and his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University. He completed his internship at The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, and his residencies at University of Rochester and Johns Hopkins University. Dr. LaBudde completed a sports medicine fellowship at Union Memorial Hospital. His clinical interests are in sports medicine, knee and shoulder problems.

David Lott, RPA-C

David Lott is a physician assistant in orthopedic surgery. He completed his undergraduate degree at York State College of Agriculture and Life Science, Cornell University, and a Bachelor of Science degree and physician assistant certification at Duke University School of Medicine. David Lott, RPA-C, is certified (with special recognition for Surgery) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, a clinical instructor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse University, and a clinical instructor in Daemon College's Physician Assistant Program.

William Nicholson, RPA-C

William Nicholson, RPA-C is a physician assistant in orthopedic surgery. He completed his undergraduate degree through the Albany Medical College-Hudson Valley Physician Assistant Program. Nicholson is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

LauraJean Oliva, RPA-C

LauraJean Oliva, RPA-C is a graduate from the Albany Medical College Physician Assistant Program and has been providing care to residents in the Oneonta area since 1978.

LauraJean Oliva, RPA-C, is Certified (with special recognition for Primary Care) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants; Certified in Emergency Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants; and a Fellow, American Academy of Physician Assistants, and a member of the New York State Society of Physician Assistants.

Her clinical career began in the field of emergency and trauma services in 1978 and continued until 1989 when she joined the orthopaedic staff at Otsego Orthopaedics as a clinical and surgical orthopaedic Physician Assistant. In 1995, she joined Bassett and she continues to practice at Oneonta Specialty Services.

Oliva was affiliated with Hartwick College for 23 years from 1979 through 2002 where she provided medical services at Perrella Wellness Center and routinely evaluated and treated athletic injuries.

LauraJean Oliva has worked providing humanitarian relief in underserved nations since 1996. She is the Founder and CEO of Esperanza Dominican Relief, a not for profit corporation that has provided medical, surgical, as well as prosthetic limb services, in the Dominican Republic since 1999.

Barbara Perry, RPA-C

Physician Assistant Barbara Perry sees patients at Coblskill Regional Hospital. She received her A.A.S. in respiratory therapy from California College for Health Sciences, and completed the Physician Assistant Program at Albany Medical College, and earned a Bachelor of Science at Charter Oak State College. Barbara Perry is certified, with special recognition for primary care, by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She also holds a certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the New York State Society of Physician Assistants, and the Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery.

Jonathan A. Richman, MD

Dr. Richmand is board certified in orthopedic surgery and the Division Chief of Orthopedics at Bassett Medical Center, with certificate of added qualifications in hand surgery. Dr. Richman received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, and earned his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency at the University of Virginia. He completed a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of California. Dr. Richman is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He holds an academic appointment as Assistant Clinical Instructor, Orthopedic Surgery, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. His clinical interests include general orthopedics, hand surgery, joint replacement, carpal tunnel syndrome, knee replacement, hip replacement, hip fractures, nerve repair, brachial plexus injury.

Jessie Champlin, RPA-C

Jessie Champlin, RPA-C is a physician assistant in orthopedic surgery. She completed her undergraduate and graduate degree at Gannon University. Ms. Champlin is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Andrew Spence, MED, ATC, CSCS

Andrew Spence has been a certified athletic trainer for the past nine years, although his experience in sports medicine started long before that. Upon receiving his bachelor's degree in Physical Education at SUNY Cortland, he began in the field as a fitness coordinator at the former Otsego Orthopedics (now Oneonta Specialty Services of Bassett Healthcare Network). After three years in that profession, Spence returned to Cortland to pursue his master's degree in Physical Education with a concentration in athletic training. Upon completion of this degree he began employment at SUNY Oneonta as an assistant athletic trainer/lecturer. He remained in that responsibility until August of 2005 when he was hired at Bassett as an athletic trainer. Spence is also an expert in the field of aquatics, with his experience spanning 20 years both as an instructor and a supervisor of the swim lessons program offered by the City of Oneonta. He has written several articles in the field of aquatics, fitness, and sports medicine on local and national levels. In addition to his Bassett Healthcare duties, Spence continues to teach at SUNY Oneonta as an adjunct lecturer in the Physical Education Department.

Thomas Benoit, ATC, CSCS, MED

Tom Benoit has been a certified athletic trainer for the past 16 years, working predominantly in the collegiate setting. After completing his undergraduate degree at Marietta College (Marietta, OH) in 1993, Benoit earned his Masers of Education in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia while completing a yearlong clinical internship as an athletic trainer at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. Following his experiences in Virginia, Benoit accepted the position of Head Athletic Trainer at SUNY Oneonta in the Fall of 1994, a position he would hold for the next 13 years. During this time, Benoit became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and was actively involved in the development and implementation of strength and conditioning plans for the athletic teams at SUNY Oneonta. In the Fall of 2007, Benoit was promoted to the position of Associate Director of Athletics at SUNY Oneonta. After two years in this position, Benoit has joined Bassett as an athletic trainer, returning to a position where he can directly impact student-athletes through the prevention, evaluation and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
