Percutaneous Needle and Transjugular Liver Needle Biopsies

A Biopsy is a procedure that is performed to identify causes of a mass in the body. It is a minimally invasive technique that utilizes ultrasound and/or CT guidance for accurate localization.

What is a transjugular liver biopsy?

It is a technique to obtain a liver biopsy in patients who are at higher risk of bleeding. It is done under x-ray/fluoroscopic guidance.

What kind of anesthesia is used?

It is most commonly done with local anesthesia.

What can I expect post procedure?

Post procedure, most patients stay for a couple of hours for monitoring. They are usually discharged in two to three hours after the procedure.
