• Cardiac MRI at Bassett

The most advanced technology in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the wide-bore 3 Tesla MRI and now, Bassett Medical Center is using this technology to perform cardiac MRI, a non-invasive, safe way to diagnose and manage a variety of heart conditions.

Using a large magnet and radiofrequency waves, cardiac MRI creates detailed pictures of the beating heart and major blood vessels so that doctors can assess the heart’s structure and function.

Bassett cardiovascular MRI director Dr. Daniel Katz explains, “Because the images are so detailed and clear, cardiac MRI is now considered the ‘gold standard’ imaging for evaluating heart function. Cardiac MRI is a powerful tool in the evaluation of cardiovascular disease we can use to evaluate a patient and determine the best course of treatment. We anticipate using cardiac MRI in the diagnosis and management of patients with a broad spectrum of cardiovascular disease.”

Cardiovascular MRI is versatile in the assessment of:

    • Coronary Artery Disease
    • Cardiomyopathies
    • Valvular Heart Disease
    • Pericardial Disease
    • Cardiac Masses
    • Congenital Heart Disease
    • Diseases of the Aorta

For patients who may have had a claustrophobic reaction in other MRIs, the wide opening of Bassett’s 3T MRI makes the exam more comfortable. In addition to heart conditions, MRI is used in diagnosing stroke, cancer, vascular diseases, and orthopedic and neurological conditions.
