Social Work

Who We Are:

Social workers at the Cancer Institute are here to help you cope with your illness from the time of your diagnosis, throughout the course of your treatment and beyond. We assist both patients and their families through this difficult journey. Social workers work closely with your entire treatment team including physicians, nurses, nutritionists and other support services, in an effort to provide the best possible care and outcome. We do this by linking you to all available non-medical community resources and services, providing you with emotional support, and assisting patients and families in dealing with the potential financial burden associated with such serious illness.

Our staff of Master’s Degree trained Social Workers work solely for Bassett Healthcare Network for the benefit of our patients. At your first visit to the Cancer Center, they meet with you to assess what your needs are and answer any questions that you may have. After this interview they develop a comprehensive plan to help you and your family confront any issues that may arise, be they financial, legal, social, emotional, spiritual. They are there by your side for the entire journey, whatever it may entail: diagnosis, treatment, recovery, at home, or in the hospital.

Put simply, our goal is to help you achieve your goal.
