Visiting Hours

At Bassett Medical Center, we understand being in the hospital is an anxious time for patients, their families, and their friends. Visitation and the support of loved ones, as well as active involvement in the patient’s care, can promote wellness.

General Visiting Hours

Visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily for all services except psychiatry. If there are special circumstances that warrant earlier or later visitation, please speak to the patient’s nurse.

Visitors are permitted to stay overnight with any patient upon obtaining permission from that inpatient unit’s management and in consultation with the patient’s physician and nurse.

For the patient’s well-being, visitation is limited to two people at any one time. For special situations, ask your patient’s nurse.

Children under the age of 12: It is preferred that children under the age of 12 do not visit the inpatient units for their own safety. For special situations, please speak with the patient’s nurse.

Palliative care/end-of-life patients: The number of visitors and hours of visitation are determined based on the patient’s needs and through the charge nurse in collaboration with the physician team and patient’s support person.

Birthing Center Hours & Policies

During her admission, the laboring mother may have three consistent support persons. After the baby is born, we happily welcome one primary support person to stay 24 hours a day with a new mother. We welcome all other visitors between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Pediatric Unit

There is unlimited visitation on the pediatric inpatient unit for parents and grandparents. One parent is encouraged to remain overnight with the child. Siblings who are not ill may visit for brief periods, but must be supervised by an adult. Two other visitors, in addition to parents and grandparents, are allowed during regular visiting hours.

Inpatient Psychiatry Unit

Visiting hours for the inpatient psychiatry unit are from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekends and holidays. Visiting at other than the established visiting hours can be arranged with the treatment team. There is no age limit. Healthy children are allowed to visit, but they must be accompanied by an adult.
