Bassett Appoints Korytko Chief of Radiation Oncology

November 1, 2014

korDr. Timothy Korytko has been appointed Chief of Radiation Oncology at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY. Dr. Korytko is a board certified radiation oncologist who graduated from the Case Western School of Medicine and completed Radiation Oncology training at The Ohio State University. He came to Bassett in June of this year from Agnesian Healthcare in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where he developed a stereotactic radiotherapy program. He was also chair of the cancer committee for the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer at St. Agnes Hospital from 2011-2014.

“Dr. Korytko is an excellent general radiation oncologist who brings expertise in neuro-radiation oncology, stereotactic radiosurgery for brain and spinal cord tumors and stereotactic body radiotherapy for lung cancer and other tumors,” notes President and CEO, Dr. Vance M. Brown. “There are many new and exciting advances in radiation oncology that will be of tremendous benefit to the patients of our region, and Dr. Korytko is committed to assuring the availability of sophisticated cancer therapy for the patients we serve.”

As Department Chief, Dr. Korytko will have responsibility for setting the direction for radiation oncology services at sites where Bassett currently provides these services. He will also oversee the professional and technical staff at these locations.

The Bassett Cancer Institute offers a nationally accredited, multidisciplinary team approach to cancer care. Since nearly all forms of cancer call for more than one type of therapy, Bassett’s medical, radiation and surgical oncologists work together as an even larger team focused on the needs of individual patients. Some of the services provided by Bassett’s Cancer Institute include radiology, laboratory, nutritional counseling, social work and other support services.

Cancer services are provided in Cooperstown, Oneonta, Sidney, Cobleskill and Herkimer, making it possible for patients to receive care closer to home.
