Dr. Streck.jpgCooperstown, NY – Ralph H. Meyer, chairman of the Bassett Healthcare Network Board of Directors, announced today that William F. Streck, MD, will return to the organization to assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bassett Healthcare Network. The announcement follows the decision by current Bassett Healthcare Network CEO Vance M. Brown, MD, to step down effective April 20, 2018, in order to pursue opportunities outside of Bassett.

“The board is appreciative of Dr. Brown’s leadership over the past nearly four years,” said Meyer. “During that time the network has successfully undertaken a number of initiatives in response to a difficult and ever-evolving health care environment. We are fortunate now to have Dr. Streck, who is intimately familiar with Bassett and experienced in health care policy, agree to return as part of a plan to complete the network corporate restructuring initiated by Dr. Brown last year.”

Streck served as Bassett’s President and CEO from 1984 to 2014. He then joined the Healthcare Association of New York State as Chief Medical and Health Systems Innovation Officer. In that capacity, he has worked the last three years with hospitals and health systems across the state on emerging models of care, population health initiatives, risk management strategies, and physician relationships.

Upon his return to Bassett, Streck will also be tasked with developing a long-term leadership strategy for Bassett Healthcare Network. Last fall, as part of the corporate restructuring, William LeCates, MD, was appointed acting president of Bassett Medical Center and will be president of Bassett Medical Center when the network CEO transition is completed.

BrownVanceHR2014.jpgBrown said his decision to leave Bassett was a difficult one. “This is a wonderful organization whose practitioners and staff are uniquely committed to our patients and improving the health of the population we serve. It has been a privilege to have had a role in helping advance that work.”

Among the accomplishments during Brown’s time as CEO are the full integration of A.O. Fox Hospital and its practitioners into the network, adoption of a single electronic health record platform across the network, and the continued development of strategic relationships with health care partners such as Oneida Healthcare and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.
