Bassett Healthcare Network President and CEO William F. Streck, MD, announced today the appointment of Paul G. Swinko as Corporate Chief Financial Officer for Bassett Healthcare Network and Vice President of Finance for Bassett Medical Center effective January 2019.

Swinko comes to Bassett from Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey where he has served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Hershey Medical Center and Vice President of Finance for Penn State Health.

As a finance executive with more than 25 years of health care experience, Swinko will be the financial, insurance, capital, debt and overall business strategist for Bassett Healthcare Network. The Network includes Bassett Medical Center, A.O. Fox Hospital, Cobleskill Regional Hospital, O’Connor Hospital, Little Falls Hospital, Valley Health Services, First Community Care of Bassett, At Home Care, Inc., over fifty clinics, the Templeton Foundation and Friends of Bassett. As CFO, Swinko will have oversight of the 200-plus member Finance team, revenue cycle performance and reimbursement.

Streck commented, “We are very pleased to have Paul join us. His depth of financial experience provides an essential skill in Bassett’s quest to continue serving the needs of the patients within our region in these complex times.”

In accepting the position with Bassett, Swinko shared the following thoughts about his decision to depart Hershey Medical Center after 20 years and move to Cooperstown.

“The corporate CFO position provides me an exciting next step in my professional career. In my visits during the interview process, the interactions with staff and leadership teams solidified my belief that Bassett is a great organizational fit for me.

“My previous experience at an academic medical center provides me the ability to add value to Bassett’s missions of patient care, teaching and research. The integration of the Bassett Medical Group within the Bassett Healthcare Network is a strength for a physician led organization such as Bassett. This was an important attribute of the Bassett Healthcare Network that influenced my decision to accept this position.

“Also, the historical Cooperstown community and the importance of Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown’s history was a factor in my decision. Most of my career was spent at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, which was founded by the Milton S. Hershey Trust Foundation. This type of history and tradition has been important to me throughout my career.”

Swinko received his BS in business administration from Bloomsburg University, Pa., and his MBA from Texas A&M University – Commerce.
