• Bassett Healthcare Network & Bassett Medical Center Boards Appoint New Chairs

    Ralph_Meyer_LowRes.jpgCooperstown, NY – The Bassett Healthcare Network Board of Directors and the Bassett Medical Center Board of Trustees have appointed new board chairs to take over effective Jan 1, 2018. Ralph H. Meyer, LFACHE, past President and CEO of Guthrie Healthcare System from 1982-1998, will take over as chairman of the Bassett Healthcare Network Board of Directors, and Terry Fulmer, Ph.D, RN, FAAN, President of The John A. Hartford Foundation in New York City and previously vice chair of the Bassett Medical Center Board of Trustees, will take over as medical center board chair Jan. 1.

    Fulmer and Meyer succeed Timothy Pedley, MD, who is stepping down Dec. 31 as chairman of the Bassett Healthcare Network and Medical Center boards. Dr. Pedley has served as chair of the medical center board for the past two years and prior to that was vice chair for nearly four years and a trustee for over 10 years. He also oversaw the development of and led the new Bassett Healthcare Network board since it was formally established in February of this year.

    “Bassett has been blessed for many years with Dr. Pedley’s many contributions to the continued growth and development of Bassett Healthcare,” notes Meyer. “As a Professor of Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center, he has been an important link for our various educational relationships with Columbia. His insight and leadership style are impressive. It is an honor to be selected to succeed this distinguished physician.”  Before being appointed chairman of the Bassett Healthcare Network Board of Directors, Mr. Meyer served for 17 years as a member of the Bassett Medical Center Board of Trustees.

We are extremely grateful for Dr. Pedley’s years of service and share his commitment to Bassett. On a personal note, having grown up just north of Cooperstown in West Canada Valley, I have a particular passion for the region and a special interest in supporting Bassett and building on its reputation as a national leader in rural health care delivery.”

    In addition to announcing the appointments of Fulmer and Meyer as board chairs, the Bassett boards also recently elected the following new members: Marion Terenzio, Ph.D., President of SUNY Cobleskill; Robert Tamburrino, a private equity/hedge fund representative; and John Zogby, senior partner in John Zogby Strategies, joined the Bassett Healthcare Network Board of Directors Oct. 19, 2017. Walter A. Franck, MD, past Senior Associate Dean for the Columbia-Bassett Medical School; Maureen Killackey, MD, Clinical Director for the New York Presbyterian/Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center; Robert Hanft, Senior Strategic Advisor for Strategic Financial Services in Utica; Jim Patrick, Executive Vice President, Envestnet, Inc., and Donald R. Bordley, MD, William L. Morgan Professor of Medicine and Associate Department Chair for Education at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, were elected to the Bassett Medical Center board in July of 2017. Dr. Franck and Dr. Killackey will assume the position of board vice chairs effective Jan 1. 2018.
