Like any mom-to-be, you want to welcome your baby into this world in the safest way possible.
But you might not know about a special kind of doctor who can help ensure that the newest member of your family does indeed arrive safely. And that doctor—an OB-GYN hospitalist—is a valuable member of our hospital team.
Perhaps you're aware of hospitalists in general. They're physicians, typically internal medicine or family doctors, who care exclusively for hospitalized patients. You might say the hospital is their office. They're available 24/7 to monitor and treat people throughout their stay.
A crucial safety net
Some hospitalists are specialists, including our highly experienced, board-certified OB-GYN hospitalists. They're ready at a moment's notice to care for pregnant women until their personal physician arrives.
An OB-GYN hospitalist might monitor a baby's heart rate, induce labor or even deliver an infant in an emergency. In short, they provide a crucial safety net when a baby or mother-to-be can't wait.
They're not meant to replace your regular doctor. Think of them more as your doctor's partner. They're at your side only for essential backup. And they will keep your doctor informed about any changes in your status—or your baby's.
Our OB-GYN hospitalists are also available to help pregnant women who need emergency care and don't yet have an obstetrician or other provider to deliver their babies. And they can also care for women who aren't expecting but need immediate help for gynecologic problems.
