Maintenance Mechanic III-Full time

The Maintenance Mechanic III performs a variety of general tasks supporting all phases of Facilities Management to include maintenance of building and grounds. Assists in performance of duties necessary to operate and maintain boiler, and other auxiliary equipment necessary for producing steam, heat and power for this facility.  Applies coats of paint, varnish, stains, enamels or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of the hospital. Assists the Plant Operations Department with plumbing, electrical and HVAC maintenance. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities.  The Maintenance Mechanic III has the necessary knowledge and ability to document appropriately.

 Day  position 5:00AM-1:00PM with variable weekends


Ability to work under extensive and constant amounts of physical efforts including walking, lifting, pulling, pushing and stooping.

Ability to lift 50 lbs, required.

Ability to lift greater than 50 lbs with the assistance, required.

Ability to work in hot and cold, internal and external environments.


High school diploma or equivalent, required.


At least six month’s related experience, required.

Previous experience in a hospital boiler room or similar setting.

Previous healthcare experience preferred.


Valid NYS Driver License, required.


Excellent motor, hand, eye, coordination and manual dexterity, required.

Ability to safely handle and operate manual tools i.e. wrenches, screw drivers, ratchets, pipe cutter and pipe threader, required.

Ability to safely handle and operate power tools i.e., grinders, sanders, circular saw, sawzall, drills, and torches, required.

Ability to safely handle and operate groundskeeping equipment i.e., riding lawn mower, push mower, hedge trimmer, weed eater and leaf blower, required.

Ability to safely work from step and extension ladders, required.

Ability to use electrical testing meters i.e. electrical leakage safety test meter, basic electrical meter, digital thermometer, hygrometer, hydrometer, psychrometer gas detector and decibel meter, required.

Ability to complete OSHA related training requirements as required i.e., lockout tag out, confined space, SDS, ladder safety and emergency evacuation.

Basic plumbing, electrical, painting and construction skills, required.

Basic troubleshooting skills, required.

Ability to read, retain and comprehend written and oral information, required.

Basic computer skills, required.

Ability to build rapport quickly, develop trust, sustain working relationships, and represent LFH positively in internal and external meetings, required.

Strong time-management and organizational skills, required.

Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills, required
