Director Facilities and Safety Operations

The Director, Facilities and Safety Operations will oversee the daily functions of the Maintenance and Environmental Services staff as it relates to hospital building and grounds. Assure regulatory and accreditation compliance and continuous readiness for supervised functions. Responsible for Statement of Conditions, and serves as hospital Safety Officer and chairs Environment of Care Committee.  To assure mutual support throughout the Bassett Healthcare Network, the Director, Facilities and Safety Operations will maintain a dotted line relationship to the Vice President for Corporate Support Services and Facilities Planning. In addition, the Director, Facilities and Safety Operations will collaborate with the Network Manager, Security and Network Manager, Emergency Preparedness to oversee and maintain the Emergency Preparedness Program at CRH and provide onsite direction to the Security Dept. The Director, Facilities and Safety Operations will supervise the Administrative Assistant and the Manager, Facilities Services and oversee the building management of 121 Legion Drive.

Education:

Bachelor's degree required.

Experience

  • Five years facilities experience, required.
  • Previous leadership, management and/or supervisory experience, required.
  • Experience with Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agencies, required.
  • Experience with project planning, required.
  • Training and experience with NYS Building Codes and/or related NFPA codes, preferred.  

Certifications:

  • One or more of the following licenses or certifications, preferred: PE (Professional Engineer), CFM (Certified Facilities Manager), CHFM (Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager), CPM (Certified Property Manager) CESCO (Certified Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer), or Code Enforcement.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding techniques of using maintenance tools; repairing machinery; and, providing preventive building maintenance.
  • Ability to teach and mentor department staff, required.
  • Must maintain a working knowledge of current regulatory guidelines and maintain efficient standards of operation.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills are required. 
  • Demonstrated customer service skills with the ability to work collaboratively with external regulatory and compliance agencies, consultants and other personnel are essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing priorities as needed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a busy environment and maintain a focus on customer service is essential
  • Ability to build rapport quickly, develop trust, sustain working relationships, and represent CRH positively in internal and external meetings is required.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to, Excel and Word. 
  • Ability to occasionally provide facilities related assistance during off hours.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able and willing to perform multiple tasks of plant operations and environmental services to back up department staff. 
  • Works in all environments, including but not limited to patient areas, office areas, and all mechanical areas including exterior roof and grounds.
  • Exposed to weather conditions associated with monitoring exterior maintenance and construction, noise and heat of mechanical rooms and plant facilities, including but not limited to electrical, mechanical, biohazardous waste, steam, chemicals, including items covered in the MSDS manual.
  • Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common to the construction trades, handle hazardous materials safely and lift heavy material of 50 lbs. and lift objects of greater weight with the assistance of additional PPE or employees.
  • Routine standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying and pushing product/equipment when performing duties/responsibilities. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license.
