Personal Description: I’m Tom Huntsman, Division Chief, Plastic Surgery. I completed my residency at Dartmouth and then a two year fellowship in San Francisco before starting here at Bassett. My professional interest has always been in a broad based approach: solving a wide variety of challenging surgical problems. I hold board certification in General, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Hand Surgery.
Surgeons are problem solvers. I enjoy the challenge of creating solutions for my patients and in many cases collaboratively with my colleagues. My profession as a surgeon is a direct extension of who I am: I enjoy building and design. In many cases what is needed surgically is a novel solution; there may be no template or pre-existing case reference. I enjoy these types of challenges and strive for the best outcome for each patient.
My career at Bassett has also afforded me numerous opportunities to volunteer and share knowledge with colleagues around the world: participating in or leading surgical teams in approximately 24 trips to fifteen countries. The array of facial deformities, burns, and other chronic surgical issues dealt with on these trips have always given me a renewed appreciation for the blessings of my life and what I am privileged to do.
I have two college aged sons, Isaac and Trevor; and am married to Julie, a veterinarian. She and I enjoy our small farm and all our animals very much.
