"Roll Out The Red Carpet," The 2011 Bassett New Year's Eve Gala
Cooperstown, N.Y. - The 2011 Bassett New Year’s Eve Gala, “Roll Out the Red Carpet,” will honor Dr. Michael S. Gold, former chief of surgery at Bassett Medical Center, and his wife, Renee Gold. Proceeds will support the construction and capital needs of a new high-tech operating suite within Bassett Medical Center. The annual benefit, hosted by the Friends of Bassett, will be held at The Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown, from 7:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
This year’s theme, a take on old Hollywood, will feature rooms decorated to represent classic Hollywood movies including Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Casablanca, The Godfather, Some Like it Hot and Doctor Zhivago. The very special evening features cocktails and hors d’œuvres, the highly anticipated Silent Auction, the Nonpareil dinner buffet, Ricks Café Americain Lounge & Bar, open bars, a midnight Champagne toast and a fireworks extravaganza.
Guests will be entertained by Doc Scanlon’s Rhythm Boys, who will have them jump, jive and wailin’ with their swinging Big Band sound. Also, back by popular demand, is the six-member dance troupe from New York City, Chez-zam, who will dazzle guests with their Hollywood themed performances, while their disc-jockey spins tunes in the Ballroom.
The Silent Auction will feature jewelry collections to represent each Hollywood movie. Donated by Herkimer Diamond Mines, the winning bidders will flaunt pearls like the ones Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s or Elizabeth Taylor’s diamond pendant and orange purse from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. For baseball enthusiasts, two extraordinary pieces commemorating the National Baseball Hall of Fame 50th anniversary can be yours: a silver bat (limited edition, marked #7 of 50) and a crystal baseball (limited edition, #7 of 250). To review all auction items, call the Friends office for a copy of the auction booklet or view it online on the Friends website.
