Pray Is Bassett Ambassador
Cooperstown, N.Y. – “Your hard drive is in imminent danger of failing.” Perhaps these words don’t have the same meaning to you as it does to Roger Pray, Bassett Ambassador. To Pray, these words can be suspect. “It could be a scam to get you to purchase a program to clean up a virus, which may have actually been installed by the program seller.”
Pray, senior PC systems analyst, has worked in Information Technology at Bassett Medical Center for 14 years, says his best advice for home computer users is to” think before you click because as soon as you click it may be too late, and keep your anti-virus products up-to-date.”
Pray’s work at Bassett include things like figuring how to get a piece of software distributed to select PCs, or working with software vendors on getting their systems configured on PCs and then documenting the processes. He also mentors IT team members in skill building. “Simply put, Roger is a go-to person for all in our IT department when comes to workstation needs and no matter how busy he is he will make time to help coworkers with solving issues,” said Glen Miller, technical services manager.
Pray is admittedly a perfectionist. “My concern and the concern of my team is doing our work efficiently and accurately for internal staff, because our IT systems and programs ultimately affect the most important customer, the patient.”
“Knowing that Roger will be on a project eases my mind,” said Michael Bone, Cancer Institute manager. “He is professional, caring and always follows through.”
And when Pray’s not at work? “I love reading science fiction - - yeah, I’m a geek,” he said. “But I also putter around the house with do-it-yourself projects. I enjoy grilling on my deck and taking walks with my wife Sara.” He and Sara, a teacher, live in Oneonta. Pray’s IT expertise was recently attested to outside of Bassett when he was asked to join the board of advisors for the computer science major at his alma mater SUNY Potsdam.
