Open Nearly A Year, Sidney School-Based Health Offers New Service For Students
Cooperstown, N.Y. – It was almost a year ago that Bassett Healthcare Network opened school- based health (SBH) centers at Sidney Middle/Elementary School and Sidney High School to provide comprehensive health care services to students pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade during the school year. With the addition of Ken Greene, LCSWR, mental health services are now available to students and their families in the Sidney school district.
“A child’s mental health is extremely important,” said Greene. “Many children may have problems that are real, painful and can be severe, but the good news is that mental health problems can be recognized and treated.”
Greene has worked as a psychotherapist and social worker for 18 years. Prior to joining the SBH centers at Sidney, he provided therapy to adults, children and families at Delaware County Mental Health in Walton.
At the health centers within the Sidney school district, Greene will offer mental health evaluations, treatment and referrals as necessary to students and their families. He will work out of two offices, one at the high school and one at the middle/elementary school.
Greene received his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Rochester and earned his Master of Social Work at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He and his wife Joelle have two children, a son Nate and a daughter Samara. They live in Bainbridge.
Enrollment in a school-based health center is voluntary and can be done any time. There are no eligibility requirements except to be a student in the district. The student’s health insurance is billed for services, but if the student does not have insurance there is no charge to the family.
