Join Bassett For Movie Night At The Fenimore Museum
Cooperstown, N.Y. – The must see movie “Return to Me” comes to the Fenimore Art Museum Friday evening, May 6 as Bassett Medical Center and Fenimore offer a free movie night open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. All who attend the event will be eligible for a drawing to win tickets for three-way admission to the Fenimore Art Museum, The Farmers’ Museum and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, as well as tickets to any 2011 Glimmerglass Festival production.
Return to Me is a romantic comedy about a man who falls in love with the woman who received his wife's heart after her death, and he must decide which woman it is who holds his heart. The movie, starring David Duchovny, Minnie Driver and Carroll O’ Connor, has received great reviews including, “a great movie, entertaining, funny and a wonderful way to spend an evening.”
Following the movie, Lisa Hamilton, a registered nurse in the Emergency Department at Bassett Medical Center, will share a brief story about a family member who gave the gift of life to six individuals following her unexpected death two years ago.
“I really hope people will take advantage of this opportunity to see a wonderful movie while also learning more about the topic of organ donation,” said Hamilton. “My sister-in-law, Lori Holdridge, suffered a fatal brain bleed at the age of 45, and the family had to make the decision about whether to donate her organs at a time when we hadn’t even adjusted to losing Lori. In the end, we all knew it’s what she would have wanted because she was a very giving person. But it would have been so much easier if we’d all had the discussion in advance with Lori.”
Hamilton encourages people to learn about giving the gift of life ahead of time so they can make the decision in advance, before they find themselves in a situation where they are unprepared to do so.
The movie Return to Me starts at 7 p.m. on May 6 at the Fenimore Art Museum. In addition to Lisa’s experience, Bassett Healthcare Network Chief Nursing Officer Connie Jastremski and Heather Hickland from the Center for Organ Donation & Transplant will be available following the movie to answer questions and offer information.
According to the Center for Donation & Transplant, which serves 30 counties in New York and Vermont, there are more than 100,000 patients waiting for a life-saving transplant in the United States. Every 14 minutes, another name is added to the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) waiting list and an average of 18 people die every day due to the lack of transplantable organs.
