Failing Is Bassett Ambassador
Cooperstown, N.Y. – JoAnn Failing’s style is simple and direct and her communication is always done with a smile. If this Ambassador doesn’t have the answer, “…she’ll find someone who does,” said Amie Doxtader, Pre-Admissions coordinator. “If we need help with anything, she is always right there.”
Failing’s qualities of quality, respect, service, integrity and friendliness have earned her recognition as a Bassett Ambassador.
“Our main job in Pre-Admissions is to get all of our elective surgery patients to surgery safely and without the delay of a cancellation,” said Failing. Pre-Admissions staff help coordinate and facilitate physicals for patients who are scheduled for surgery.
“JoAnn consistently puts the patient at the forefront of everything she does,” said Amy Van Kampen, administrative director, Anesthesia. “Whenever there is a question about how to move forward, JoAnn asks, ‘what’s best for our patients.’”
“I thing I like most about my work at Bassett is the staff; they are all very supportive and hardworking,” explains Failing. Failing manages 17 employees in Pre-Admissions, including two people who telecommute.
Failing’s life has been active in health care, from her early years as a home health aide to her work as a registered nurse for the past 20 years. She began at Bassett as assistant nurse manager in 2003, after having been director of nursing of a local nursing home five minutes from her home in Ft. Plain. “It was perfect for me then, as I could be there for all of the sporting events of my children.”
Failing and her husband Charles of 46 years have three grown children, all of whom are in the medical field. She still finds time to attend the many athletic events of her six grandchildren and for raising a special yellow lab named Barbie.
