Champlin Is Bassett Ambassador
Cooperstown, N.Y. - “My advice to users of our new electronic medical record (EMR) system is, don’t let the tool interfere with what you’re here for. As long as the patient gets the best care, that’s the important thing,” says Bassett Ambassador Carol (CC) Champlin, IT systems analyst. The Bassett Ambassador Program recognizes people who work at Bassett and who consistently demonstrate values such as quality, respect, service, integrity and friendliness.
Champlin’s career at Bassett has morphed over the 21 years she has been here, having worked as a medical technologist as a bench tech, in central lab processing and laboratory information systems - - the last immersing her into the clinical IT world. Transitioning to IT as a systems analyst has been a perfect fit for Champlin because she enjoys “being the conduit between the technical person and the clinical person.”
Champlin will often sit and look at the computer screen alongside the clinical person to determine what his or her needs are for documenting the care of patients. She then “tweaks” or “builds the system,” personalizing the EMR application for the provider or department.
“While all of those who provided EMR support at go-live did an outstanding job, CC consistently stood out, whether it was at our health centers or over the telephone,” said members of the regional health center management team.
When Champlin is not in the field supporting others in their work, she can be found at her home on Goodyear Lake in Milford, gardening, watching old movies and working on various home improvement projects.
