Bassett Nurse Recognized For Work With Emergency Care
Cooperstown, N.Y. – Coleen Vesely, R.N., B.S.N., coordinator of the Trauma and Stroke Program at Bassett Medical Center, was recently honored during the New York State Emergency Nurses Association meeting on April 8. Vesely, a certified emergency nurse and certified pediatric emergency nurse, received the Ginny Hens Emergency Medical Services award. The award is given to a member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) who promotes collaboration between pre-hospital care providers and ENA through various activities and projects.
“It was quite a surprise,” Vesely said. “This work and collaboration are so essential, as the pre-hospital care providers are the front line of patient contact, and we are an extension of their interactions. What they do, what they see, and what they tell us is extremely important. Building a solid relationship between the pre-hospital care providers and the Emergency Department nurses and physicians is essential to gathering crucial information on a patient and condition.”
Vesely has worked at Bassett for 20 years, first in the Intensive Care Unit and then Emergency Department. She continues to work closely with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers and has received several other awards recognizing her contributions to training and educating the providers.
