Bassett Hosts Open Meetings To Learn About Medicare, Medicaid Changes
Cooperstown, N.Y. - Bassett is hosting two open community meetings to inform the public about the new changes to Medicare, Medicaid and New York State EPIC insurance plan.
“We are encouraging as many people as possible to attend these free, informative meetings,” said Bassett Cancer Institute’s Patient Care Coordinator Lynn Scarfuto, R.N. “Not understanding what Medicare or Medicaid covers is often a barrier for some in getting necessary health care, and with so many changes, some of which have already gone into effect, it is important to get help from the experts.”
The goal of the open meetings is to inform Medicare and Medicaid enrollees and other family members or friends who help them with their insurance paperwork, about the changes coming and those already in place. Many of the insurance changes are complicated and often people do not fully understand what coverage they have or can expect to have in the future.
Open meetings will be held:
Monday, August 22, at 9:30 a.m. at the education conference room at FoxCare Center, One FoxCare Drive, (Rt. 7), Oneonta. Light refreshments.
Thursday, September 15, at 5:30 p.m. at the Clark Auditorium, in the fieldstone building at Bassett Medical Center, One Atwell Rd., Cooperstown. Light refreshments.
Guest speaker: David Polley, HICAP (Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program) coordinator, Otsego County Office for the Aging. Representatives of EPIC, Statewide Senior Action Council, NYCONNECTS and Bassett’s social work team will also be on hand to answer audience questions.
The meetings will last approximately two hours. No registration is required and classes are free.
