Zuill Named Bassett Ambassador

Cooperstown, N.Y. – “I’m actually a newcomer in my department, even with my nearly 15 years here,” said Bassett Ambassador Karen Zuill. “Really, I wouldn’t mind being here until I retire. Our department is great - - we have fun, we all pitch in and we get it all done.” The Bassett Ambassador program recognizes people within Bassett who display core values of quality, respect, service, integrity and friendliness.

Zuill started in the department of finance after having been an auditor with the audit firm of KPMG in Albany. “I was working as an auditor on the Bassett audit, found out about an opening and I’ve been here ever since,” said Zuill, who has an accounting degree from Siena College and is a CPA. She began as a senior accounting analyst providing financial support to the Research Institute. She then spent nine years as accounting manager before her promotion to director-finance, accounting operations.

Barbara Green, human resources director at O’Connor Hospital, shared in nominating Zuill, and said, “She sets a high standard that permeates the entire department. Everyone on her staff demonstrates a similar commitment to customer service. Karen is smart, dedicated and an ultimate professional.”

Sue Andrews, vice president, finance, also praised Zuill for her work and dedication. “Karen is truly appreciated by those of us who work with her on a daily basis. Last year, Karen took on the preparation of the new 990 form, a huge task that would have normally been done by our tax firm, and required significant time and effort. Karen’s taking on this task saved the network substantial tax preparation fees,” said Andrews. “She consistently delivers, and goes above and beyond.”

Zuill works hard and plays hard. She and her husband Glenn, a self-employed exacavator, have three children, Gregory, eight, Ryan, seven, and Jessica, three. The family is involved with many 4H projects, including raising chickens and showing vegetables from their garden at the county fair. Zuill and her family live in the town of Davenport.
