Physiatrists join Bassett's Center for Spine Care to provide pain management services in region

Cooperstown, N.Y. - Emily DeSantis, D.O., Yusuf Tatli, M.D. and Brian White, D.O., have joined Bassett Healthcare Network at the Center for Spine Care as physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, or physiatrists. Physiatrists provide a wide spectrum of non-operative care, with a focus on restoration of patient function, for patients experiencing conditions including back and neck pain, disc herniation, spinal stenosis, arthritis of the spine and many other musculoskeletal conditions. The Center for Spine Care is a collaboration of many areas within Bassett, including orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, physiatry/pain management and physical therapy.

Dr. Emily DeSantis is dual board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. DeSantis has clinical interests in spine and extremity pain, sports medicine, osteopathic manipulation and electrodiagnostics. She recently completed an interventional spine and musculoskeletal medicine fellowship at Southwest Spine and Sports, Scottsdale, Ariz. She received her Bachelor of Science, cum laude, at Union College and received a doctor of osteopathic medicine at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. DeSantis completed an osteopathic internship at Ingham Regional Medical Center and a policy studies fellowship at the New York Institute of Technology, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. At Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine she completed a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency and she was co-chief resident between 2007-2008. She is a member of the International Spine Intervention Society, American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, American Osteopathic College of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American Osteopathic Association and The Cranial Academy. Dr. DeSantis will see patients in Cooperstown at the Railroad Ave. location, at Hartwick Seminary Specialty Services and at the Herkimer Health Center.

Dr. Yusuf Tatli, who is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, has clinical interests in spine and interventional pain procedures and sports medicine. Before joining Bassett, Dr. Tatli was an attending physiatrist and assistant professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Tatli received his medical education at Istanbul University, Istanbul College of Medicine. He completed residencies in physical medicine and rehabilitation at New York Medical College and New York Presbyterian Hospital, and was chief resident at New York Presbyterian Hospital between 2004-2005. Dr. Tatli completed a fellowship in spine and sports medicine at Hospital for Special Surgery, in New York City. He is a member of the North American Spine Society, International Spine Intervention Society, American College of Sports Medicine, Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, New York Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and American Medical Association. Dr. Tatli will see patients in Cobleskill, in Cooperstown at Railroad Ave., Hartwick Seminary Specialty Services, and as part of Bassett’s orthopedic group at FoxCare Center in Oneonta.

Dr. Brian White is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and has joined Bassett as an interventional physiatrist. He will provide interventional and medical management for patients with musculoskeletal disorders, including back pain, spinal stenosis, spinal arthritis and various musculoskeletal conditions. He will also perform electrodiagnostic evaluations.

Dr. White has a strong interest in sports medicine and prior to attending medical school competed as an elite level cyclist. Dr. White recently completed an interventional spine and electrodiagnostic fellowship at University of Massachusetts, and prior to that completed a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. In 2005, Dr. White completed a transitional internship at Bassett Hospital. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of New Hampshire and received his doctor of osteopathic medicine at Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a diplomate of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and also holds memberships in the American Osteopathic Association, International Spine Intervention Society, North American Spine Society, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society. Dr. White sees patients in Cooperstown at Railroad Ave., Hartwick Seminary Specialty Services and Oneonta Specialty Services.
