Meet & Greet highlights health programs in Tri-Town region

Sidney, N.Y. – At a recent Meet & Greet sponsored by Tri-Town Community Wellness, local health providers and community leaders learned about health care initiatives in the Tri-Town region aimed at keeping local families healthy. Presentations were given by representatives of At Home Care, Inc., a local home health agency and a regional partner of the Bassett Healthcare Network; Tri-Town Community Wellness, and Tri-Town Regional Hospital, a corporately affiliated hospital within the Bassett Healthcare Network.

Keynote speaker Judy Sweet, R.N., community liaison for At Home Care, Inc., provided information about telehealth, an advanced technology that uses a patient’s home computer as a way for nursing staff and physicians to monitor vitals and remotely complete a medical visit on their patients.
.
“With telehealth in the patient’s home, the home becomes like a virtual doctor’s office,’ said Sweet. “And for those patients who are monitored via telehealth, they become more involved in their own health care.” Although only 22% of home care agencies in the country use telehealth, use of the system leads to decreased rehospitalization rates, improved efficiencies in delivering care to patients and improved access to those who may live in rural areas or have transportation issues. At Home Care, Inc., has delivered quality home health care to residents of Otsego, Delaware, Chenango and Herkimer Counties for nearly 25 years and was recently recognized as one of the “Top 500’ home health agencies in the nation by the HomeCare Elite.

Dan Ayres, chief executive officer of Tri-Town Regional Hospital, defined the services offered at Tri-Town Regional Hospital, which include a fully staffed emergency department that is available to the community 24-hours a day seven days a week, complemented by immediately accessible diagnostics within the hospital’s radiology and lab suites.

Within Tri-Town Regional Hospital is Tri-Town Community Wellness, a service that strives to positively impact the health of regional residents by sustaining a culture of community wellness. “We offer a variety of wellness and educational classes including yoga, “Aim for a Healthy Weight” and the smoking cessation program “The Butt Stops Here,” as well as walking challenges,” said Elaine Anderson, community educator at Tri-Town Community Wellness. “We have something for everyone and we are always open to new ideas from the community.”
