Manikas Named Bassett Ambassador
Cooperstown, N.Y. – "When you call a patient by name and remember something personal about them, they realize you care about them, not just their cancer," said Reggie Manikas. "I always try to put myself in their place and do what I feel will be helpful or lift their spirits." Manikas is Bassett’s latest Ambassador and has worked at Bassett’s Herkimer Cancer Center as a patient service associate for the past year and half and is known for her ready smile and positive attitude. Bassett’s Ambassador Program recognizes employees who demonstrate core values of quality, respect, service, integrity and friendliness.
Manikas, who has been known to come to work in the morning with a patient she picked up on the way who didn’t have transportation to an appointment, says, "I just do what’s normal."
"I am so fortunate to have Reggie on my staff," said Michael Bone, manager, Bassett Cancer Institute. "She’s a blessing to her coworkers and patients."
"I do love my job and I’ve always had a way with people," said Manikas. "And the doctors and other staff I work with are wonderful; I truly believe in them and the care they provide. They are so kind and compassionate to their patients. When I see what our patients are going through, my small problems at home don’t matter."
Manikas provides clerical support for Drs. Carolyn Mook and Timothy Campbell and Sherri Looman, RPA-C. "Reggie is very dedicated to the center, is always friendly and cheerful to patients," said Looman. "She makes my job easier and enjoyable."
Manikas, a lifelong resident of St. Johnsville, along with her husband Tony, a postal worker, have three grown children and three grandchildren. When they are not working at their day jobs, they are busy with their family-owned restaurant, the Parkside Drive In, which they’ve operated for 33 years.
