Cooperstown, N.Y. – Bassett Healthcare Network recently introduced Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), a program that helps families enroll their uninsured children and teens up to age 19 into low or no-cost health insurance plans, such as Medicaid or Child Health Plus. CHIP is funded by a federal grant under the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act.
CHIP offers a free service using program outreach workers to help parents complete and file the necessary applications to enroll their children in either Medicaid or Child Health Plus insurance plans. The outreach workers are able to meet with families at their homes, in the local schools, Bassett’s school-based health centers or elsewhere in their communities. They provide personalized assistance to parents to help them get the medical insurance and health care they need for their children. Outreach workers are available in Chenango, Delaware, Herkimer, Madison, Otsego and Schoharie counties.
For more information, call 607-433-4036 or toll-free at 866-348-1477 to find out about low or no-cost health insurance options that are currently available for children. The CHIP office is located on the first floor at 125 Main St., Oneonta Health Center.
