Hamilton Named Bassett Ambassador

Cooperstown, N.Y. – “Jane Hamilton, R.N., embodies the humanistic values that are fundamental to Bassett’s mission…[she] is dedicated to providing and extending the highest quality patient care, especially to children and adolescents, since she began her career at Bassett,” wrote Ed Mintiens, Fund Development, in his nomination letter. “Jane was instrumental in initiating the School-Based Health Program at Bassett and has been with the program ever since.”

The Bassett Ambassador Program recognizes employees at Bassett who demonstrate core values of quality, respect, service, integrity and friendliness.

“I’ve been a registered nurse for 31 years and 15 of those years have been with Bassett,” said Ambassador Jane Hamilton. “I’ll always be grateful that Bassett was supportive of the idea of school-based health.” Hamilton now manages all of Bassett’s 18 school-based health centers in four rural counties. Today, the centers serve nearly 6,000 children.

“Working with school-based health is so rewarding. We take care of all children exactly the same, no matter what their insurance status, socioeconomic status or demographics,” said Hamilton. “I’m proud that the children who are seen for health care in our school-based health centers receive exactly the same care as they would receive on the third floor of the clinic building in the Pediatric Clinic at Bassett Medical Center.”

Hamilton and her husband Peter are lifelong residents of Delhi (they knew each other in second grade but didn’t date until college), and have two grown children – P.J., an attorney and Jessica, a Web developer/designer. “I love baking, especially chocolate chip cookies and I am an avid Scrabble player. And, honestly, this is just a coincidence, but I also have two basset hounds.”
