Bassett Offers Breast Cancer Presentation & Screenings Oct. 15

Cooperstown, N.Y. – In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there will be a public presentation and screening opportunities at Bassett Medical Center on Friday, Oct. 15. Dr. Bernadette Ryan, attending surgeon in thoracic surgery and surgical oncology at Bassett Medical Center, and Peg Blackman, regional director, American Cancer Society, will present “Knowing the Facts about Breast Cancer” from noon to 1 p.m. in the Clark Auditorium in the fieldstone building at Bassett Medical Center.

Clinical breast exams and screening mammograms will also be available Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. on floor T2 in the Clinic Building at Bassett Medical Center. For screening appointments, call Sierra Seaman at 607-547-4830. Walk-ins are also welcome. Uninsured or underinsured individuals may qualify for free breast cancer screenings through the Cancer Services Program of Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie Counties. According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 192,370 people last year were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and it is predicted that in 2010 there will be approximately 207,000 new cases.

On Oct. 15, get the facts about breast cancer, prevention, early detection and the latest treatments at a free presentation, and you can also choose to receive a breast exam and screening mammogram.
