Cooperstown, N.Y. - To better reflect the organization it is today, Bassett has adopted a new corporate identity, Bassett Healthcare Network. In addition, The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital is now doing business as Bassett Medical Center.

"Our geographic size, wide range of programs and level of integration warrant a new identity, one that matches the breadth of services provided to patients throughout the eight county region we serve," notes President and CEO Dr. William F. Streck, who has guided Bassett’s growth for the past 25 years.

The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital (MIBH), the foundation for the network, first opened its doors in the 1920’s. More than 80 years later, it has grown from a single hospital into a comprehensive health network that now includes six hospitals, 26 regional health centers and 13 school-based health centers across an area the size of Connecticut. Also under the network umbrella are skilled nursing facilities, a home health care partner, a medical supply company, a real estate company, and a fundraising organization.

Reflecting on Bassett’s past and looking to its future, Dr. Streck explains, "Change has been and will continue to be a constant companion as we evolve to meet the health care needs of the region, especially in this era of health reform. However, one thing remains unchanged and that is our commitment to the generations of patients and families we are privileged to serve."

Bassett Healthcare Network is an organization of physicians and other practitioners, hospitals, health centers and health partners providing care and services to people living in an eight-county region covering 5,000 square miles in upstate New York. Bassett Medical Center, the foundation for this network, is a 180-bed, acute care inpatient teaching facility in Cooperstown, New York. The hospital provides postgraduate residency training programs in Medicine and Surgery and maintains a strong academic program through its affiliation with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, recently highlighted by the establishment of a Columbia medical school campus at Bassett. The Bassett Physician Group is comprised of a full-time, salaried staff numbering 250 physicians and other doctorates and 150 allied health professionals in a multi-specialty group practice. Around the region, Bassett physicians and other health professionals provide primary, preventive, and outpatient care at 26 health centers and 13 school-based health centers. The Physician Group also provides outpatient primary and specialty care at the Bassett Clinic, located on the Medical Center campus in Cooperstown. Additionally, Bassett offers 24-hour emergency and trauma care, comprehensive cancer and heart care, dialysis, and most medical and surgical specialties in Cooperstown. The Bassett Research Institute houses the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health (NYCAMH) and conducts programs in clinical science, population and public health studies.

Acute inpatient care is provided at these network sites: OConnor Hospital in Delhi, Cobleskill Regional Hospital, Little Falls Hospital, Tri-Town Regional Hospital in Sidney and A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta. Outpatient specialty care is available throughout the region with Bassett specialists seeing patients at many of the health centers and Bassett network sites.

Skilled nursing care, adult day care and rehabilitation services are provided by Valley Health Services in Herkimer and the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta. Regional health partners include At Home Care, Inc., which meets the health needs of patients who receive care in their home, and First Community Care of Bassett which provides home care equipment and supplies.
