Bassett’s Anticoagulation Program Wins $30,000 Grant

Cooperstown, NY – Bassett’s anticoagulation management program beat out more than 250 other proposals from around the country to win a $30,000 grant that will support expansion and help drive improvements in effectiveness, efficiency and excellence in the care of patients who are on anticoagulants.

Jessica Lineberger, senior grants manager for the Cardinal Health Foundation, says,"We received more than 250 letters of intent and invited only 100 organizations to submit full proposals, putting Bassett’s anticoagulation program among the top in the country." In the end, Bassett was among an elite group of 40 organizations awarded funding by Cardinal Health.

"It’s important for patients in the rural eight county region we serve to be able to readily access safety-enhancing services akin to those of more metropolitan areas," notes Kelly Rudd, Pharm. D., BCPS, CACP, anticoagulation clinical specialist. Rudd explains that the grant from the Cardinal Health Foundation will allow Bassett to expand anticoagulation services to additional patients from the highest risk medical specialties. The expanded clinic would mirror an existing pilot program and utilize a computer-based patient tracking system supported by fingerstick INR testing. Anticoagulation therapy is designed to prevent life-threatening strokes and heart attacks, as well as treat and prevent damaging or fatal blood clots.
