Emergency Care
The O'Connor Hospital Emergency Department offers around-the-clock, comprehensive emergency services as part of the Bassett Healthcare Emergency Services and Trauma network. Providers at O'Connor interface with board certified Emergency Medicine physicians in Cooperstown through telephone and telemedicine connections, thus enabling staff members at both sites to participate in patient care in a highly effective, coordinated manner. A helicopter landing pad is maintained by the hospital to expedite the emergency care of traumatically injured residents.

Inpatient Services
O'Connor Hospital has a 16 bed unit that provides care to patients 6 years old and older.  It is an integrated unit for acute care, hospice, respite and swing bed patients.  Acute care provides short-term medical treatment for patients having an acute illness, injury or recovering from surgery.  There are a wide range of services available such as cardiac monitoring, respiratory therapy, pharmacy and nutrition counseling.  Hospice Care provides symptom management, pain control and end of life care with support to the patient and family.  Respite Care is short-term inpatient care provided to the individual only when necessary to relieve the family members or patient’s caretaker. 

Swing Bed Program
The Swing Bed Program provides rehabilitative and skilled services for patients transitioning from Acute Care to home.  The program integrates the services of physicians, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, social work, clinical dietetics and pharmacy.  This multidisciplinary team uses a holistic approach to focus on the medical and functional needs of each patient. The team meets weekly with the patient and family to establish the plan of care and to determine the length of stay in order to accomplish the individual goals. Plans of care incorporate individual therapies, diet, education, self-care activities and medical intervention.  Care is provided by a group of experienced registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nurses’ aides who are committed to providing excellent personalized care.
