We provide a broad and comprehensive range of specialty services, giving you the opportunity to practice in an extensive variety of disciplines: Operative Services, Post Anesthesia Recovery Services, Intensive Care, Special Care Unit, Surgery, Medicine, Ambulatory Care, Psychiatry, Dialysis, Pediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Cancer Care, Orthopedic Surgery, Emergency Services, and Research.

The Bassett Professional Nurse

Nursing at Bassett is based on a dynamic professional practice model, which is congruent with nationwide trends in health care delivery. The nursing staff recognizes the integrity and accountability of individual nurses. The hallmark of the professional nurse at Bassett Healthcare is the ability to practice in a self-determined manner while adhering to established ethical and practice standards.

As part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of colleagues, attending physicians, medical residents, therapists, nursing students and support personnel, our nurses promote wellness, encourage maximum independence of individuals through the life span, and assist in recovery from illness or the achievement of a peaceful, dignified death. The professional nurse defines and coordinates the delivery of patient care.

Education

Since 1947, The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital has been affiliated with the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and has maintained residencies in internal medicine, surgery and transitional care. Our Division of Nursing has long-standing affiliations with Hartwick College, the State University of New York at Delhi and Otsego County BOCES. The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital is the primary nursing clinical site for these higher education institutions.

The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital also offers education programs to qualified Bassett registered nurses and an internship for students entering their senior year in a nursing program. Nursing students in the region use our clinical areas as an integral part of their educational programs, and many graduate students complete their clinical course requirements through preceptorships with Bassett nurses.
