Bassett Learning Commons & Mackenzie Medical Library

The Learning Commons & Library provides information services designed to meet the research, education, & patient care needs of Bassett Healthcare, including clinicians, staff and students. These services include the provision of literature searches, document delivery and interlibrary loan, as well as orientations, classes, and one-on-one tutorials.  

In addition to traditional collections of print books and print journals, the Learning Commons and Library collects, maintains, and provides virtual collections  consisting of electronic books, journals, databases, and evidence based resources.  These resources include Medline, CINAHL, Cochrane Databases of Systematic Reviews, ACP Journal Club, and D.A.R.E., all available through the OVID interface, as well as MDConsult, Micromedex, Stat!Ref electronic books, and UpToDate.

The Library and Learning Commons is centrally located and open 24 hours daily with one to two professional librarians and one library assistant in attendance on weekdays.  There are currently fifteen PCs networked to two laser printers (one on each floor).

2007 will bring exciting changes.  A generous grant will assist in adding a surgery simulator area, a workstation to support the development of online education, study cubicles for students and residents, a small group study room, and furniture that supports the functions of a 21st century library and learning commons.
