Little Falls Hospital awards scholarships to local students

Little Falls Hospital recently awarded the “Frederika Vickers Conrad and Dr. Joseph W. Conrad Scholarships” to five deserving area students.
Dr. Sue Conrad Quinby and Roger P. Quinby established the scholarship fund in 1973 in memory of Frederika Vickers Conrad and her husband, Dr. Joseph W. Conrad. The Quinbys specified that the income from this fund must be used to award a scholarship to a deserving resident of the Little Falls Central School District, to those persons interested in pursuing a career in medicine, para-medicine, nursing, laboratory, technical work, hospital administration or any allied health field, with the exception of chiropractic medicine, to be determined and approved by a Scholarship Committee of the Little Falls Hospital Board of Trustees.
The 2011 Scholarship Winners are:
• Megan Douglass, attending the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
• Kyle Moser, attending Polk State College, Winter Haven FL
• Kayla Cross, attending Herkimer County Community College
• Jennifer LaCourse, attending Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
• Sarah Neely, attending Union College
Little Falls Hospital President and CEO Michael Ogden was on hand to present the scholarships, along with Esther Brown, President of the Little Falls Hospital Guild, and Tony DeLuca, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee.

Little Falls Hospital is proud to celebrate the achievements of several staff members. Rebecca Akers, RN, BSN, the Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department and Michael Ogden, President and CEO, recently congratulated three Emergency Department nurses for their efforts to reach for excellence in their chosen specialty.
Loretta Mosher RN and Robin Swartz RN have obtained their CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse Certification). Akers noted that both put in many weeks of study and organized review sessions, in addition to their regular work hours, in preparation for the exam, which is considered to be very challenging.
Additionally, Kathleen Esty, a new hire at Little Falls Hospital, passed her boards and was licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN).
“The imperative to provide excellence and superior quality care within the healthcare industry, and especially nursing, is very intense and requires continual learning,” Ogden stated. “Little Falls Hospital has placed so much importance on learning and education that we have included it in our organizational goals and values. I am very pleased that our nursing staff has the desire and motivation to achieve excellence in their profession through education and a commitment to make a difference in their own lives and the patients they serve every day.”
