Bassett to Locate Operational Support Center in Utica

November 1, 2014

oldmtBassett Healthcare Network will be locating an operational support center in the M&T Bank Annex Building at 231 Genesee St. in downtown Utica. This will be Bassett’s first presence in Utica and its second location in Oneida County. The network also has a primary care center in Clinton.

Over the past year, Bassett has worked to identify a location for an operational support center that has suitable space to meet the expanding business needs of its network. An initial list of 20 sites was narrowed to six, with Utica surfacing as the top choice. The Utica market provides Bassett the potential to partner with educational institutions on programs that could help augment its long term technical workforce.

In the first two years, Bassett expects to have around 40 positions at the operational support center with future growth at that location to be determined. The exact functions that will work out of the Utica location will be decided over the next several months.

Bassett Healthcare Network President and CEO Dr. Vance Brown stated, “We look forward to working with the City of Utica on this project. We anticipate that it will take a year before we are ready to occupy the space at the M&T Bank building. We are still developing our plans for the operational support services to be located there, but it is an exciting partnership. We’re very appreciative of the support of Mayor Palmieri and his team.”

Sphere Holdings LLC, a real estate development firm located in Manlius, N.Y., worked with Bassett, M&T Bank and the City of Utica to develop this project. One of Sphere’s partners, Kurt Wendler, who is a Utica native, said, “Mayor Palmieri and his staff have been instrumental in making this project a reality.”

Mr. Wendler further stated that, “Allen Naples, President of M&T’s Central New York Region, immediately identified Sphere’s project as a win for the City of Utica and the greater central NY community.” Bringing a project together of this magnitude is a coordinated effort and Sphere is delighted to be a part of the process.

M&T Bank Regional President Allen Naples added, “We’ve always believed the success of M&T Bank is tied directly to the success of the communities we serve, and our team works hard every day to generate business loans and other economic activity benefiting Utica. Working with Mayor Palmieri and Sphere Holdings to bring one of New York State’s premier health care providers to our building will have a positive economic impact on downtown Utica and the region.”
