Wellness and Prevention is a key factor in keeping our communities heart healthy. Through the Bassett Heart Care Initiative, components of Prevention and Wellness are used to help us reach this goal.
Keeping people healthy starts with identifying those who are at an increased risk for heart disease. Since 2001, The Bassett Heart Care Initiative has used one component, Community Heart Screenings, to conduct more than 6,500 heart screenings to identify people at risk for heart disease and educate them about what they can do to improve their health. We continue to offer heart disease risk assessments through Community Heart Program Screenings at local companies and organizations.
At a screening, you will receive accurate, reliable, on-the-spot results for: Total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, total/HDL cholesterol ratio, blood pressure, Waist-hip measurements, Body mass index, 10-year estimate of heart disease risk.
Program staff will continue to provide heart screenings and expand educational events with a focus on heart disease and obesity.

Another component of Prevention and Wellness is Bassett's Preventive Cardiology Clinic. Through this clinic, patients and physicians work to reduce the risk for primary and secondary cardiovascular disease.

Wellness and Prevention also focuses on wellness after a cardiac event. Bassett Healthcare Phase I & Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation is a program that provides education on lifestyle and dietary changes, and helps the patient begin the healing process.
